The Free Application for Federal Student Aid

The first step in applying for financial aid is to complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). John Wood Community College will receive the results of the student's application if the student indicates JWCC's code of 012813 in Step 6 of the form. In response to this application the student will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR should be reviewed for accuracy and retained for the student's records. Processing of the paper FAFSA may take up to four weeks and, therefore, the application should be filed well in advance of the student's planned starting date.

Getting Started

You can complete the FAFSA online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. You may also go to the side bar located at the left of this page and click on Forms and select 2008-2009 FAFSA application.

This form can be mailed to: Federal Student Aid Programs, P.O. Box 4692, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864 which will take four to six weeks for processing OR you can turn in your completed 2008-2009 FAFSA application at JWCC Enrollment Services at 1301 South 48th St, Quincy, IL 62301 to be filed. Processing time should be approximately two to three weeks.
The FAFSA is a free application. You should never have to pay a fee to submit your information.
Apply early! Some funds are limited, and the sooner you file, the more financial aid you could potentially receive

Filing your FAFSA online

Filing your FAFSA online means having access to complete online help and more detailed instructions than the paper form. Your data is completely secure, and your information will be processed much quicker than mailing the paper form to the federal processor.
In order to file online, you must obtain a PIN number from the US PIN Website. Getting a PIN will allow you to file online at your own pace, make corrections to your already submitted application, and check the results of your application, including printing your Student Aid Report.
If you are a dependent student (you must provide parent's info), you will need a PIN for a parent, also.
If you do not have a PIN, you can still file online, but you will be required to mail in a signature page, which will lengthen the processing time.
