Greater Region
The District includes many other rural communities whose festivals and fairs provide exceptional local color and entertainment. Excellent outdoor recreational opportunities, such as boating, fishing, and hunting, are important to the region. West-central Illinois is easily accessible by air, train, and bus. Four-lane interstate roads make major cities, including Chicago and St. Louis, within easy driving distance.
Greater Region: The greater region includes Northeast Missouri—with Hannibal, the boyhood home of Mark Twain, as its most visited town; Southeastern Iowa; and the larger area of West Central Illinois, which includes historic Nauvoo. Partnerships and collaborations of many kind cross the river and state borders, and JWCC is involved in several of them.
Other educational institutions in the region include Quincy University (Quincy), Culver-Stockton College (Canton, Mo.), Hannibal-LaGrange College (Hannibal, Mo.), Western Illinois University, and Illinois College and MacMurray College (Jacksonville). WIU and Quincy University are the top two transfer schools for JWCC students.
