Much of the demand for individuals in the electrical field will result from growth in the economy and population. Individuals will be needed to help maintain wiring in existing buildings and add wiring to new buildings. In addition, new technologies should increase the need for electrical positions. For example, many houses and offices will need new wiring for computers. Plus, some factories are adding robots. Electricians will be needed to install them.


Wages in entry-level positions for electrician helpers range from $10 to $13 per hour. Entry-level electricians, electrical installers, repairers and technicians can earn from $13 to $28 per hour. Pay varies with the area of the country, the employer and the worker’s experience.*
