The expected growth for individuals in the electrical field is 23% by the year 2020; much of this demand will result from growth in the economy and population. Individuals will be needed to help maintain wiring in existing buildings and add wiring to new buildings. In addition, new technologies should increase the need for electrical positions. For example, many houses and offices will need new wiring for computers. Plus, some factories are adding robots. Electricians will be needed to install them.


The median salary for individuals in the electrical field is $48,250 or $23.20 per hour. Pay varies with the area of the country, the employer and the worker’s experience.
