Welcome to John Wood Community College. Everyone at JWCC and the Office of Risk Management & Security hopes you have a wonderful and safe experience while attending JWCC. This crime prevention, safety, and security tip information is being provided to you as a reference guide to assist you in making good decisions that will help keep you safe. You are primarily responsible for your own safety and security and you will need to make every effort to make your surroundings as safe and secure as possible. First some facts about campus crime…
United States National Statistics
80% of campus crime is student-on-student.
90% of felonies involve alcohol and/or drugs.
The probability of a female student being sexually assaulted over a four year period in college is an estimated 25%.
Date rape drugs such as, GHB, Rohypnol, and Ketamine are being used to spike drinks prior to sexual assaults.
According to Citizens Against Crime, a crime against a person (e.g. murder, rape, robbery, and assault) occurs every 17 seconds in the U.S. and a crime against property (e.g. burglary, larceny, and vehicle theft) occurs every 2 seconds.
