WEST PRAIRIE ADVANCES IN WGEM ACADEMIC CHALLENGE Members of the West Prairie (Colchester-Sciota Northwestern) High School Quiz Bowl team advanced to the semifinal rounds of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament with a 105-90 win over Central (Camp Point) High School on Saturday, March 6. This match launched the 20th season of the competition and is the first of a seven-part television series airing weekly on WGEM Fox and WGEM NBC TV. |

JOHN WOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE LAUNCHES 20TH SEASON OF WGEM ACADEMIC CHALLENGE John Wood Community College will launch the 20th season of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament on Saturday, March 6, with the competitions first quarterfinal match between West Prairie High School (Colchester-Sciota Northwestern) and Central High School (Camp Point) airing at 6:30 p.m. on WGEM Fox. The match will be rebroadcast on Sunday, March 7, at 10:30 p.m. on WGEM NBC. |

JWCC TO SUSPEND VOLLEYBALL AND GOLF PROGRAMS In light of continuing state budget cuts, John Wood Community College President Tom Klincar will recommend to the Board of Trustees in March that the schools volleyball and golf programs be suspended effective July 1, 2010. |

MATT MCELFRESH SCHOLARSHIP FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT STUDENTS ESTABLISHED AT JWCC Gary and Sheila McElfresh, along with the Adams County Sheriffs Office, have established an endowed scholarship with the John Wood Community College Foundation in honor of their late son, Matt McElfresh. Beginning in the fall of 2010, earnings from the scholarship fund will be distributed annually to a student enrolled in the Law Enforcement Program at JWCC. |
