From the JWCC Office of Public Relations:

Our Procedure for Announcing Weather-Related Schedule Changes

In the event that severe weather or a service interruption causes JWCC to change its schedule (i.e., cancel classes and/or close centers), the Public Relations Office uses this procedure for announcing these changes:

1.      The Office of Public Relations will call a number of local radio and TV stations with the cancella-tion/closing announcement:

¨       If one or more of the college's centers is closing, a long list of media is called.

¨       If it's a more isolated case geographically, only those stations serving the affected area are called.

Stations to be called and their dial positions (& Web sites, where applicable) include

v   WGEM: WGEM-TV (Ch. 10 and Quincy Cable Ch. 13 and Digital channels 10.1 [NBC], 10.2 [CW] and 10.3 [FOX])—they run "crawls" across bottom of screen & announce during News; also Web page--www.wgem.com (updated frequently); CGEM (Quincy Cable Ch. 18); radio--WGEM-FM (105.1) is local news; WGEM-AM (1440) is sports only but both will announce closings.

v   KHQA-TV (Channel 7 and Quincy Cable Ch. 12)—"crawls" & during News; also www.khqa.com.

v   STARadio: WTAD (930 AM), KZZK (105.9 FM), and WCOY (99.5 FM) make announcements. Their "sister stations," KGRC/REAL (92.9 FM) and WQCY (103.9 FM), will tell listeners to tune to WTAD, KZZK or WCOY to hear announcements.

v   Double O Radio: KICK-Hannibal/Quincy (97.9 FM), KHMO-Hannibal (1070 AM), and Y101-Quincy (100.9 FM) will make announcements. Sister station WLIQ-Quincy (1530 AM) will not make announcements.

v   WBBA, Pittsfield (97.5 FM). Also will update Web site: www.wbbaradio.com.

v   WPWQ, Quincy ("oldies"--106.7 FM) and KWBZ, Monroe City, Mo. (107.5 FM) are simulcast, and announcement will be on both stations.

v   WGCA, Quincy (88.5 FM).

v   WJIL/WJVO, Jacksonville (WJIL, 1550 AM and 102.3 FM; WJVO, 105.5 FM).

v   WLDS/WEAI, Jacksonville (WLDS, 1180 AM; WEAI, 107.1 FM).

v   KJFM, Louisiana, Mo. (102.1 FM).

v   WRMS, Beardstown (94.3 FM).

v   WKXQ, Rushville (92.5 FM).

v   WCAZ, Carthage (990 AM).

2.      Information Services will be called to put a message on the JWCC Website: www.jwcc.edu AND an announcement will be recorded on the JWCC Weather Line. The Weather Line call is made after all other calls are made. To listen to a recorded message on JWCC Weather Line, call 217/641-4100 or 217/224-6564, ext. 4100.

In situations affecting the Quincy area (especially in early morning), calls to WGEM, KHQA, STAR, the KHMO-KICK-Y101 group, and JWCC Information Services (for Web page) generally are made first.

3.      Please Note:

¨       JWCC is NOT part of the Quincy Public Schools; therefore, if stations are saying "all Quincy public schools are closed," that DOES NOT include JWCC.

¨       JWCC does NOT call the media to announce that we are open and operating as scheduled. Assume that all JWCC centers and classes are operating as scheduled unless otherwise announced.

¨       If you are aware of a closing/cancellation, please work through the proper JWCC channels (with your VP); DO NOT call the media yourself.
