JOHN WOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The John Wood Community College Creative Writing Contest is intended to encourage writers to create new work. Therefore, all entries must be original by the entrant and previously unpublished. Any number of entries may be submitted in the following categories: · Non-Fiction: up to 2,000 words, $7 per entry · Fiction: up to 2,000 words, $7 per entry · Traditional Rhyming Poetry: 2-page limit, $5 per entry · Non-Rhyming Poetry: 2-page limit, $5 per entry · All Other Poetry Forms (limericks, haikus, humorous, sonnets, etc.): 2-page limit, $5 per entry
Deadline for EntryAll entries must be postmarked between January 1 and April 2, 2008.
How to EnterEntries must use font type Courier (New Courier), size 12 and typed on one side only of 8 1/2 x 11 white paper. Prose should be double-spaced. Each page should be numbered and titled at top. Paperclips may be used but no staples. E-mail entries will not be accepted. No personal identification should appear on manuscripts. A 3x5 tracking card must accompany each entry. Tracking card should list the following: Author’s name Address City, State, Zip Telephone Number E-Mail Address Title of Work Category Entered Social Security Number JWCC requires Social Security Numbers in order to process checks for those who win cash prizes. Only entries accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope will be returned. No feedback will be provided unless you request the critiquing service. All other entries will be destroyed after judging. All entrants will receive a letter notifying them of the contest results by April 30th. PrizesMoney prizes and a certificate will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category. Prize amounts are determined by number of entries. Multiple wins in any one category will receive highest honor award only. Honorable mentions will receive a certificate. JWCC reserves one-time rights for possible publication of winning entries. This does not abrogate 1st serial rights.
Where to Send EntriesMail all entries and payments to: Business Office—Writing Contest John Wood Community College 1301 S. 48th Street Quincy, IL 62305 Appropriate fees MUST accompany all entries for consideration. You may use one check or money order and place all entries in the same envelope.
Critiquing Service
The college offers a critiquing service of works submitted to the contest. If you wish a written critique, you must include an additional $5 per poem and/or $15 per story. Critiques will be sent as soon as possible after judging. No feedback will be provided unless you request the critiquing service. All other entries will be destroyed after judging.
