Contests & Competitions

Community Education sponsors five contests annually. Winners of each contest receive award certificates and cash prizes. Entry fees are reasonable and most are $7 or less per entry.

Student Art Show


  • Open to students in K-12th grades.
  • Entries are due mid-January.
  • Exhibits the month of February with an opening Reception and
  • Awards Presentation the first week of February.
Recycled Art Contest

Recycled Art Contest

  • Open to all ages Pre-K through adult.
  • Main criteria: at least 50% of the artwork must be made of recycled materials or materials found in nature.
  • Entries are due the end of March.
  • Exhibits the month of April with a Reception and Awards Presentation as part of JWCC's Annual Earth Day events in mid-April.
Photography Show

Photography Show

  • The only dedicated photography show for all ages in the Tri-State Area.
  • Open to both amateur and professional photographers.
  • Open to youth (no specific age limitation) and adults.
  • Entries are due mid-April.
  • Exhibits the month of May with an opening Reception and Awards Presentation in conjunction with the Dogwood Festival Weekend the first week in May each year.
Annual Art Show

Annual Art Show

  • New Theme: The 2009 Annual Art Show will be the launch of the New Annual Art Show with a 12x12 theme.
  • All works must fall within the 12" x 12" measurement.
  • Open to adults age 18 and older.
  • Entries are due mid-October.
  • Exhibits the month of November with an opening
  • Reception and Awards Presentation the first week in November.
Creative Writing Contest
Creative Writing Contest
  • Now open to youth in grades 6th-12th. Open to adults age 18 and older.
  • Categories include: Fiction, Non-Fiction, and 3 categories of poetry (Traditional Rhyming Poetry, Non-Rhyming Poetry and All other Poetry Forms).
  • Entries accepted January through first of April.
  • Award winners will be notified via letter.
  • Critique service available for a small fee.
