Children's College, part of the Community Education Department at John Wood Community College, has been providing learning opportunities for the youth in our service area for over 16 years. This unique program offers children academic and enrichment workshops on a college campus. Children's College workshops are designed to teach new and meaningful skills, develop new interests and hobbies, excite students about learning, as well as provide an opportunity for them to explore possible careers.
New Workshops and Prospective Teachers
Children's College is alwas seeking new and innovative programming. Our goal
is to provide unique, challenging workshops. Interested persons who have teaching experience (Note: a teaching credential is NOT required), expertise in a field, and a passion for working with youth are encouraged to submit a Workshop Proposal. Please click on: Course Proposal, complete, and send to the Children's College address listed below. Please contact Annie Kennedy, Children's College Specialist, at 217.641.4902 if you have any questions, would like to discuss your ideas, or need assistance in completing the Workshop Proposal form.
Safety
The safety of children is a primary concern of Children's College. Students must be escorted to and picked up promptly from the class location, each session. Drop-offs are not permitted.
Medical Emergency Release forms must be completed and signed by the student's parent or legal guardian for each child at the beginning of each workshop. If a parent or legal guardian is unable to bring their child to Children's College on the first day of a workshop, they must complete this form in advance to process.
Classroom/Campus Conduct
Children's College students must meet program standards of good conduct and behavior while on the John Wood Community College campus and at every class meeting. This means courteous attention, good manners and careful handling of equipment being used. This is a college campus and college classes will be in session, thus, disruptive behavior is not allowed. Students must follow the instructions given them by the teacher or a staff member.
Failure to follow this code of conduct may result in dismissal from the workshop with no refund from the Children's College program. Parents are responsible for the cost of repairing or replacing any equipment that their child might damage or break, either intentionally or through reckless behavior.
