Open Learning Instruction Hours
To provide faculty preparation, grading and course
development time, instruction at all Open Learning locations closes the week immediately before and
immediately after traditional semesters. Full-time JWCC faculty members may be reached by
phone and email. Associate faculty will not be available during these times.

Do I have to attend regularly? You MAY be required to attend regularly. You WILL be scheduled to attend 1 hour each week for each credit hour you are enrolled. Sign in with your instructor to document your attendance. This means that if you are registered for 3 credit hours, 3 hours of attendance WILL be scheduled and MAY be required. Use whichever JWCC study centers whenever you wish beyond your required time. Open Learning courses will usually require work and time beyond your scheduled time. Open Learning Course Activity o Student is meeting with the instructor, AND o Student is taking tests and is on schedule to finish the class in his/her 16 week term, AND o Student is completing and turning in assignments on schedule |

| What if I know I will be absent? If you are unable to make a scheduled meeting with your instructor,
or know you will miss it, notify your instructor in Quincy by calling 224-6500, and
ask for your
instructor's extension. In Pittsfield, call 285-5319. In Mt. Sterling, call
217-773-4411 x 2555 or (217) 641-4144. You can
make up missed time any time the Center is open. (Some instructors want you to make up
time only when they are present. Check with your instructor.) You may be
withdrawn without notice if you do not meet with your instructor and have made no progress or
suitable arrangements with your instructor. |

| Can I change the schedule of my class(es)? Yes! Here is where our flexibility shows. If a conflict in your schedule develops, just call or stop by the Open Learning Office and one of the office staff will help you change your schedule to a more convenient time. Please do not hesitate to take advantage of this flexibility. Remember, course completion time limits still apply even if you change your schedule, so make sure you pace yourself. |

How will I know when Open Learning Instruction will be closed? Any time a schedule change affects Open Learning, a sign will be posted in the area at least one week in advance to the closing. Currently, Open Learning instruction closes for curriculum maintenance in the week before Fall and Winter semesters begin.
Radio and TV announcements are made when
a sudden event (such as bad weather) requires a school closing. The Herald-Whig line at (217)
224-9444, extension 4000. An announcement will also be put in The Quincy Herald-Whig if
the closing is due to a general school closing. As a rule, the Open
Learning Instruction is open when school is
in session. In Pittsfield, notices will appear in The Pike Press and The Pike Express.
