Ways to Succeed in Open Learning

General Information

Are there time limits on Open Learning Courses?

Yes. We design our courses to be completed in 16 weeks. The college's policy on Incomplete Grades applies to Open Learning as well as face-to-face and Online courses.

Will I receive grades for my courses in Open Learning?

Open Learning, like face-to-face classroom sections, enrolls students for either conventional letter grades or Pass/Fail. Your instructor issues the letter grade of A, B, C, D or F upon completion of course requirements. In fact, a grade of F may be given when coursework is not completed at the end of your personal term.

How do I drop an Open Learning class?

To drop a course, talk to your instructor or notify the Open Learning office during regular office hours 8am – 5pm M-Thurs. 8am – 4pm Friday.  Your transcript record will be assigned as follows:

Drop within 10 days of your start date No grade, no record of start
Drop prior to midterm (8th week after start date) W
Drop during 8th-12th weeks WI
Drop after close of 12th week Grade Earned A-B-C-D-F

How do I take my tests?

Take your tests in the Open Learning Testing Room or another area set apart for this purpose. When you and your instructor decide you are ready to take a test, the Testing Room Monitor or your instructor will get the test for you. The monitor will require you to show a photo ID before you receive your test.

If you have a cellular phone with you, please turn it OFF while you are in the testing room. Pagers or other personal electronic devices should be turned OFF or to "silent".
