Law Enforcement Programs
Degrees in this program help to prepare students for careers in criminal justice and/or to transfer to a four-year colleges/universities to complete bachelor's degrees. Instructors in this program are practitioners in the criminal justice field.
Peoples' lives often depend upon the quick and efficient actions of law enforcement personnel. Law enforcement professionals must be up to date on investigation techniques and procedures, legislation, and criminal justice theories. In today's world, law enforcement officers must be prepared to meet of a variety of challenges including hazardous materials situations, active shooting incidents and terrorism. law enforcement professionals must be able to deal with diverse people in a non-biased and professional manner.
JWCC offers both transfer and non‑transfer programs in law enforcement. The transfer-level associate in science degree program is intended for students who are interested in pursuing a four‑year degree in law enforcement or criminal justice at another college or university upon graduation from JWCC. Students interested in pursuing a transfer degree should contact a JWCC counselor for more information.
The non‑transfer AAS Degree‑Emergency Services‑Law Enforcement Option is intended to prepare students for immediate entry-level employment in the field of law enforcement. The program is also suitable for adults currently working in the field of law enforcement who are seeking additional education to further their careers.
A new program being offered by John Wood is the AAS in Corrections. This program is designed for those entering the Illinois Department of Corrections Academy. The option allows those enrolled to earn credit while attending the academy. There are three options in the program: Adult Corrections Officer, Youth Supervisor, and Parole Officer.
