The Fire Science Program offered at John Wood Community College is an AAS degree intended to prepare students for entry-level employment in the field of fire service. Students are trained in fire suppression, protection, and prevention techniques. Students are prepared to react correctly to emergency situations.

The Fire Science Program is also caters to individuals currently employed in the fire service field that are seeking additional training. JWCC offers Fire Officer level courses that are now available online.

With credit for certified training in a firefighter’s individual state, the Fire Science Degree is attainable online and firefighters may receive credit for on-the-job training by forwarding their information and certificates to JWCC.

JWCC’s training is closely coordinated with the State of Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office, to ensure up-to-date course content.
