Find a newspaper article?
We subscribe to print issues of the Chronicle of Higher Education, Quincy Herald Whig,
St. Louis Post-Dispatch, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal. We archive each for 3 months.
If you are on campus and need assistance, please ask one of the Library Staff
to help you. If you are off campus, you will be asked to login using your JWCC
email login. You may also telephone the Library during normal operational hours at
217-641-4537.
We also subscribe to an electronic database of over 100 newspapers. It is
America's Newspapers through Newsbank. We have provided direct links to
several popular newspapers in the database. You also have the opportunity to
open America's Newspapers and select the newspaper by name, date or
subject.
Newspapers are an excellent source for current information.
Our print subscriptions to the Chronicle of Higher Education, Quincy Herald Whig,
St. Louis Post-Dispatch, USA Today and Wall Street Journal are accessible online. However, the Quincy
Herald Whig only provides portions of the newspaper. To access the last 7 days, YOU must register and be
a print subscriber. The archives are also available for a nominal charge.
This project is a culmination of effort, based at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library, that began in 1987. It is part of the U.S. Newspaper program, a cooperative effort between the states and the federal government. Its purpose is to identify, catalog, and preserve on microfilm the nation's historic newspaper heritage.
The INP team travels throughout Illinois inventorying and cataloging collections held by libraries
and other repositories. Newspapers that have not already been preserved on microfilm are considered
for filming in order to create a permanent record of this vanishing material.
