Article Databases Description
PubMed Includes over 19 million citations for medical and biology articles from MEDLINE and other life science journals. After opening the record for an article, you may be able to click on a button in the top right that says "free full text" to access the full article. If a free full text button is not on present, click the Full Text @ John Wood Community College button to request the article from the JWCC Library.
CINAHL Nursing Database CINAHL, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, offers full text for over 600 journals. (JWCC Affiliates Only)
Nursing Resource Center This resource brings together respected medical titles from Gale and Macmillan with thorough, nursing-specific texts from Thomson Delmar.
Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition Offers almost 550 full text journals that cover many medical disciplines. Also included is the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets and more than 4,700 brand name drugs.
Health Source: Consumer Edition Includes almost 80 full text, consumer health magazines with information on health topics such as the medical sciences, nutrition, childcare, sports medicine, and general health.
PsycARTICLES Includes over 137,000 articles from 66 journals, 50 of which are published by the APA (American Psychological Association)
Medscape from WebMD Medscape allows users who register for free to search for full text articles, CME content, conference coverage, news, MEDLINE, drug interactions, and combined drug content from the FDA, First DataBank, and the AHSP Pharmacopoeia.
TOXNET The National Library of Medicine's TOXNET allows users to search a variety of databases related to toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases. The databases include TOXLINE, GENETOX, Haz-Map, Household Products, and more.

Stedman's Online Medical Dictionary Search or browse the online version of Stedman's Medical Dictionary, 27th Edition.
Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary Search or browse the online version of Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary. (JWCC Affiliates Only)
Mosby's Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing, & Health Professions This sprawling dictionary includes a comprehensive anatomy atlas, numerous useful appendices, and lots of full color images.
A Dictionary of Nursing With over 10,000 entries, this nursing dictionary includes clear and concise entries written by medical and nursing specialists.
Churchill Livingstone's Dictionary of Nursing Nurses may find this dictionary useful not only for its definitions but also for its appendices such as normal values, nutrients, drugs, useful websites, and career development.
Mosby's Emergency Dictionary This dictionary is focused on terms related to emergency medicine. Four appendices offer reference information such as stages of hypothermia, normal lab values, odor origins, etc.
Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary Although not all entries in this dictionary include images, you can click the images tab to see all of the pictures and illustrations in the dictionary. Click on an image or term to view the definition and find a link to an audio file that demonstrates the proper pronunciation.
Dictionary of Medical Acronyms & Abbreviations The fifth edition of this well regarded dictionary provides accurate definitions for the medical acronyms and abbreviations that are in use today.
The American Heritage Medical Dictionary Words are included in this dictionary on the basis of their usage, and entries are written at an appropriate level of technical detail without the inclusion of overly academic terminology.
Merriam-Webster's Medical Desk Dictionary, Revised Edition With tens of thousands of entries, this dictionary includes abbreviations, medication names, biographies of medical pioneers, pronunciations, and more.
Mosby's Dictionary of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Includes dictionary entries that cover five major areas of complementary and alternative medicine: alternative health care systems, mind-body interventions, biologically-based therapies, manipulative and body-based healing methods, and energy therapies.

The Oxford Companion to the Body This detailed guide to the human body includes over a thousand interesting and informative entries.
The New Harvard Guide to Women's Health This A to Z reference is packed with detailed articles about women's health that are written by physicians from three of the world's most prestigious hospitals: Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Brigham and Women's Hospital.

A.D.A.M. Medical Encyclopedia from MedlinePlus Includes over 4,000 articles about diseases, tests, symptoms, injuries, and surgeries.
NetLibrary Medicine & Health eBooks NetLibrary is home to JWCC's eBook collection. Drug Reference Resources
Description
RxList RxList contains a wealth of drug information drawn from FDA approved product labels/prescribing information. Users can search by drug name or with a variety of advanced options such as searching by imprint code. On the index page, lists of the most popular prescription drugs are available.
FDA's Drug Information Pathfinder This pathfinder informs users about the FDA's drug- related resources. The list of links includes pointers to chronological lists of approvals, consumer drug information sheets, drug availability information, importation policy information, links to state boards, "hot topics," and other useful drug information.
Drugs@FDA The Drugs@FDA database offers official information about FDA approved brand name and generic drugs as well as therapeutic biological products. The database includes FDA approved labels for some drugs, manufacturers of brand name and generic drugs, dosage information, initial approval dates, and a list of all drugs with a specific active ingredient. Data about both current and discontinued drugs is available from Drugs@FDA.
MedWatch: Medical Product Safety Information MedWatch includes FDA- generated alerts for drugs, biologics, devices, and dietary supplements. It is an excellent source of information about safety-related drug labeling changes.
Drug InfoNet This free service provides package insert information for health professionals and for consumers.
Drugs.com Drugs.com offers basic drug information (mostly useful for consumers), a drug interactions checker, a pill identification tool, and drug related news.
Pharmaceutical Medicine Dictionary This dictionary is focused on terms related to pharmaceutical medicine and to drug research and development.
An A-Z of Medicinal Drugs This reference dictionary from 2003 offers over 5,000 entries on over-the-counter and prescription medicines.
Evidence-based Medicine Databases
Description
Netting the Evidence Netting the Evidence includes a variety of links and annotations for resources such as databases, software, journals, organizations, and guides to searching, appraising, and implementing evidence.
TRIP: Turning Research Into Practice The TRIP database includes links to information from a wide variety of sources that include databases for evidence based synopses, clinical guidelines, medical images, systematic reviews, calculators, core medical journals, and others.
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality: Clinical Information Index The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) offers a variety of evidence-based practice reports, clinical practive guidelines, outcomes & effectiveness findings, new technology reviews, and more. The AHRQ also maintains the National Guideline Clearinghouse, a database for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
Clinical Trial Databases
Description
ClinicalTrials.gov ClinicalTrials.gov offers information about federally and privately funded clinical research that involves human participants.
CenterWatch CenterWatch offers lists of over 41,000 ongoing clinical trials as well as drugs used in clinical trials. Some parts of the site are subscription only.

Description
MedlinePlus from the National Library of Medicine MedlinePlus offers information on health topics, drugs, supplements, news, doctor directories, local services, and more.
BehaveNet BehaveNet's clinical capsules and resource lists offer a variety of information related to behavior disorders. The DSM-IV-TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision) is provided free of charge, but the statistics from the book are not included.
OMIM: Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man The free OMIM database is a catalog of human genes and genetic disorders. Maintained by experts at Johns Hopkins and elsewhere, OMIM offers a large collection of detailed information along with references to PubMed records.

Martindale's Virtual Medical Center Martindale's offers a huge collection of links for a variety of medical topics.
