Education
Students planning to major in education should follow the associate in science or associate in arts degree curriculum. This prepares the student to attain proficiency in several areas within the profession, including elementary, secondary, and special education. The program of study provides a general orientation to each of the teaching specialties. The topics include an investigation of organization principles and foundations of education, child development and psychology, and factors affecting learning. Emphasis is placed on the historical developments and major ideas of philosophy which have been influential in American education. Students interested in a career in education must consult with a counselor to develop their program of study.
