Emergency Services

Peoples' lives often depend upon the quick and efficient actions of fire service and law enforcement personnel. Fire service professionals must be knowledgeable about the practices of fire suppression, use of fire service equipment, managing crisis situations, and coping with hazardous materials. Law enforcement professionals must be up to date on investigation techniques and procedures, legislation, and criminal justice theories. Like fire service personnel, law enforcement personnel must also be able to manage crisis situations.
JWCC offers both transfer and non transfer programs in law enforcement.
The transfer-level associate in science degree program is intended for students who are interested in pursuing a four year degree in law enforcement or criminal justice at another college or university upon graduation from JWCC.
The non transfer AAS Degrees are intended to prepare students for immediate entry-level employment in the field of law enforcement. The program is also suitable for adults currently working in the field of law enforcement who are seeking additional education to further their careers.
A range of degree options in fire science is available through JWCC. These options feature different levels of preparation for various positions in the field of fire science. Training is closely coordinated with the State of Illinois Fire Marshal's Office to ensure up-to-date course content. Most training and courses are available through in-service programs to area fire fighters. See the Fire Science Department Page for more information.
