Steps to Becoming a JWCC Online Student
Determine if you need to apply for admission to JWCC. Read the following four statements. If any one of these statements applies to you, you will need to follow all of the steps below to apply for admission.
- You plan to complete a degree or certificate program.
- You plan to enroll in six or more credit hours per semester (generally 2 classes)
- You plan to apply for federal or state financial aid programs.
- You have previously completed a degree or certificate program and want to earn a new degree or certificate.
If none of these statements apply, you do not need to apply for admissions to John Wood. Begin at step 4 below to start the process. You may register for online courses by calling the advising office and setting up an appointment to meet with an advisor. Students at a distance may schedule a phone appointment or visit with an advisor via email.
- Apply for Admissions. You will be notified by email and letter when your admissions form has been accepted. You will receive another letter when all of your records have been received and you are eligible to register for classes.
- Check to see if you can obtain credit for prior learning through Advanced Placement testing, CLEP or DANTES DSST
- Apply for Financial Aid. It is important to apply early since funds may be limited.
- Check the John Wood Course Schedule for a listing of offered courses.
- Choose the appropriate semester.
- Search by course. For a listing of courses delivered online, choose Online Learning for the Delivery Method.
- Visit with an academic advisor. Advisors can help you plan your courses and ensure that a particular course meets your needs. Online students can make phone or email appointments. Email advising@jwcc.edu.
- Register for classes. Register early. Popular courses fill shortly after registration begins. New students must register for courses by talking with their academic advisor who will enroll them in courses.
- Pay your tuition and fees. For additional billing and contact information, visit the Business Office website.
- Obtain your JWCC email and student account information. Contact Information Services.
- Make sure you have the correct technical equipment for JWCC online courses.
- Order your textbooks.
- Login to your courses using the JWCC Portal - Blazernet by clicking on the the Quick Launch icon for eCollege.
