
John Wood Community College’s Athletic Department will host the Third Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Saturday, January 23. The public is invited to attend.
Two former student-athletes will be inducted. The program will be held at 6 p.m. in the Student Activity Center on the campus at 48th and Harrison, Quincy. It will follow a double-header basketball game against Shawnee Community College, with the women playing at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.

Cathy Schlager, now Cathy Lundberg, of Ewing, Mo., a member of the Lady Blazers softball team 1998-1999
Mike Kurk, of Quincy, Il., a member of the Trail Blazers soccer team 1991-1993
Michael Elbe, director of student life and athletics and head men’s basketball coach will serve as master of ceremonies. Michael Elbe along with Dr. John Letts, vice president for student services, will present commemorative plaques to the inductees. JWCC President Thomas Klincar will provide the welcome.
Plaques honoring the inductees will be displayed on the Hall of Fame wall in the Student Activity Center.
The purpose of the Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves by their outstanding performance, work, support, and/or contributions to John Wood Trail Blazer athletics. In addition to having demonstrated outstanding ability and having made a contribution to a sport, the inductees must possess such personal qualities as sportsmanship, character and integrity.

Cathy Schlager
Trail Blazers Softball
1998-1999
Cathy Schlager, a graduate of Highland High School, was captain of the Lady Blazers softball team in 1998-1999 and is currently listed in several individual records for women’s softball at John Wood. She transferred to Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo. and St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Clinical Laboratory to complete her clinical laboratory science degree. While at Culver Stockton she was a pitcher and played left field on the softball team and during her senior year her team went to Nationals.

Mike Kurk
Trail Blazers Soccer
1991-1993
Mike Kurk, a graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School, was captain of the Trail Blazers soccer team in 1991-1993. He was a midfielder for the soccer team and in 1992, the team earned a #3 seed for the Region 24 tournament and were beat in the semi final game to qualify for the NJCAA national soccer tournament. Mike transferred to Maryville University in St. Louis where he played for two more seasons and won the SLIAC Conference both years. He graduated with a degree in marketing in 1994.
