Dependency Status

Students are asked to respond to dependency questions on the FAFSA form to determine if parental information is required. If a student feels that the outcome of being a dependent student is not fitting for their unique circumstances, then they may request a review of their dependency status. Students will need to complete a Request for Review of Dependency Status as well as provide a letter that details their request and justification for action. Being self-sufficient alone is not adequate justification to make an otherwise dependent student independent.  You will need to demonstrate with appropriate documentation that either:

• your single parent is incarcerated, or
• your parents have abandoned you, or
• you are the victim of an abusive family environment and you no longer reside with your parents.

Unusual circumstances are considered on an individual basis.

The Financial Aid Office cannot guarantee that financial aid will be in place by the date tuition and fees are due if you do not submit all requested information and supplemental forms by the priority process dates.
