What is the Perkins Grant?

The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, provides assistance to students in vocational and technical education programs. The federal government gives the Grant to Illinois, who in turn, gives part of the Grant to John Wood Community College. Intended to increase the competitiveness of the U.S. in the world economy by improving workers’ technical skills nationwide, the Perkins Grant helps students succeed in school and complete their education.

What is the purpose of the Perkins grant?

The purpose of Perkins III is twofold. Part of the funding is used to keep JWCC’s Career and Technical programs on the cutting edge of technology.  This enables students to be trained in their chosen fields with up-to-date equipment.  The other part of the funding provides a success program for students, preparing them for careers and further education.
