Purebred and commercial beef herds continue to grow and thrive in the counties of Western Illinois and throughout the Midwest. They continue as a critical enterprise for many diversified farming operations.


Both large and small operations are looking for qualified personnel to assist them as they implement new technologies, striving to improve their product in a very competitive global market.


Some career options will include sales, livestock marketing, and agricultural technology. Graduates might also continue their education to gain careers in teaching, banking, business records and farm analysis.


JWCC graduates and interns are placed at companies such as University of Illinois Orr Beef Research Unit, privately owned cow/calf operations, and the ADM Alliance Research Farm.


·         Entry-level salaries after completion of a Beef Certificate generally range from $25,000 to $30,000 with opportunity for advancement.

·         Salaries may range from $25,000 to $40,000 for a beef assistant and from $40,000 to $55,000 for beef managers based on advanced education and experience.
