Medical Laboratory Technician

AAS Technical Degree

Medical laboratory technicians, also known as medical laboratorians, are part of the medical team specialists who work together to detect and provide information to aid physicians in the diagnosis, and treatment of disease and the maintenance of wellness.  We use sophisticated laboratory equipment and technology to perform laboratory procedures on blood and other body fluids and tissues of medical patients.  We conduct a range of laboratory tests from simple blood screens to more complex tests to detect diseases such as cancer, coronary artery disease and diabetes, identification of bacteria or viruses that cause infections, and detecting drugs of abuse. Our staff and students have access to some of the most sophisticated and up-to-date biomedical instrumentation, technology, and computers available to perform laboratory testing on blood and body fluids.
