12th Annual Photography Show
The 12th Annual Photography Show accepted entries April 2nd-5th . The photographs are on display until May 28th in the Heath Center Art Gallery. The Awards Presentation and Reception was held April 25th at 6:30 p.m. in the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium. The exhibit features both youth and adult entries.
Awards presented on April 25th included Best of Show, Best Color Photo and Best Black and White for both adults and youth as well as the special Best Dogwood Days Photo, sponsored by the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce. In the Adult Category, “Downtown Quincy Living”, there was a Best of Show award, sponsored by the Historic Quincy Business District. First-, Second-, Third-Place winners and Honorable Mention for all categories in both divisions were honored with certificates.
Judge for this year’s contest was professional photographer Chet Coonrod. He received his BA in Professional Photography from SIU-C. Upon graduation, Chet worked for a short time in newspaper and television, and as a studio assistant to the late Roger Humke. In 1983, he started Coonrod Photography, and in 1989, the studio moved to its present location at 1931 Jefferson.
Many of the artworks are reasonably priced and available for sale. The college retains a 15% commission on all works sold and income is used to fund future art exhibits and projects of the college.
The Heath Center Art Gallery is located in the Paul Heath Community Education and Fine Arts Center on the 48th and Harrison campus in Quincy. The exhibit is open for public viewing during the college’s regular operating hours Monday through Saturday. Art exhibits are sponsored by the offices of Community Education of John Wood Community College.
