These conditions are known as social determinants of health (SDOH). We know that poverty limits access to healthy foods and safe neighborhoods and that more education is a predictor of better health. We also know that differences in health are striking in communities with poor SDOH such as unstable housing, low income, unsafe neighborhoods, or substandard education. Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has opened an Office of Population Science and Policy tasked to address these SDOH and find innovative solutions to improve health outcomes in a 66 county service region in central and southern Illinois.

Topics covered include defensive driving techniques, how to drive safely in adverse weather, new traffic laws and rules of the road, and how to deal with aggressive drivers.
