Heath Gallery: Howard Kuo Paintings

Export

John Wood Community College Heath Art Gallery will welcome spring with a colorful exhibit featuring Howard Kuo.  Kuo’s work will be on display March 7 to April 4, and open to the public.

Kuo is a self-taught watercolor artist.  In 2012 his watercolor, Honeymoon Suite earned Honorable Mention at the Oakley Lindsay exhibit.  Kuo’s work is often detailed with bright colors and is expressive with a bit of fantasy.  His extensive collection is mostly Oriental and he studies the styles of the masters as well as contemporary artists.

Kuo states, “I paint to entertain myself and satisfy my own imagination.  When you have to make a living at art, that limits your imagination.”  Kuo started painting after a career in physical therapy. He was born in Manchuria and grew up with parents speaking four languages: Japanese, Taiwanese, Mandarin and English. He currently resides in Hannibal, Missouri.  Kuo has also served as a guest lectured at JWCC sharing the art and traditions of Taiwan.

Classes in advanced drawing, 3D design, painting, ceramics, fundamentals of drawing, 2D design and photography will be offered in the spring semester based on student demand. To register for a class contact JWCC Career Services at 217.641.4355.

The Heath Center Art Gallery is located on the lower level of the Paul Heath Community Education and Fine Arts Center on the JWCC campus in Quincy at 48th and Harrison.  The display will be open to the public during the College’s regular operating hours.
