Artist Reception For Howard Kuo Set For April 4 at John Wood

The public is invited to an artist reception for Howard Kuo on April 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at John Wood Community College Heath Center Art Gallery located at 48th and Harrison in Quincy. Kuo’s exhibit is currently on display through April 4 and available for viewing during the College’s regular operating hours in the Orr Auditorium lobby.

Kuo is a self-taught watercolor and ink artist whose work is often detailed with bright colors and is expressive with a bit of fantasy.  Kuo studies the styles of the masters as well as contemporary artists.

In 2012 his watercolor, Honeymoon Suite earned Honorable Mention at the Oakley Lindsay exhibit at Quincy Art Center.  He began painting after a career in physical therapy.  Kuo was born in Manchuria and grew up with parents speaking four languages: Japanese, Taiwanese, Mandarin and English.  He currently resides near Hannibal, Missouri, and has served as a guest lecturer at JWCC sharing the art and traditions of Taiwan.

JWCC’s Fine Arts department will offer several art classes in the fall including Drawing Fundamentals,  2D Design and Painting. Art Appreciation is offered for General Education Humanities credits. Beginning students are welcome. To register for a class contact JWCC Career Services at 217.641.4355.
