Robotics, 3D Prototypes and Laser Technology to be on Display; Applications for Paid Training Available
John Wood Community College will host a Manufacturing Expo Thursday, October 24 at the College’s Workforce Development Center, located at 4220 Kochs Lane in Quincy. The public is invited to attend from 1 to 3 p.m. free of charge.
Participants may also apply for Central Illinois Advanced Manufacturing Partnership manufacturing skills training during the expo, to be offered by JWCC. Through the “Accelerated Training for Illinois Manufacturing” (ATIM), selected individuals will receive paid training based on the needs of regional employers. The accelerated training is in response to the growing skills gap encountered by manufacturers. Prior work experience in manufacturing is helpful, but not required to qualify. Financial support for the ATIM paid training is provided by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity using federal Workforce Investment Act funds. Training qualification information is available at www.ilworknetmanufacturing.com/ATIM or from representatives at the JWCC Manufacturing Expo.
From 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. students will visit the JWCC Workforce Development Center and tour six manufacturing sites arranged by the Great River Economic Development Foundation. Students from QHS, Camp Point Central, Liberty, Pleasant Hill, Southeastern, Unity, Pittsfield, Western in Illinois and Canton, Highland and Louisiana in Missouri will tour regional manufacturing companies including Craig Industries, Marlboro Wire, Manchester Tank, Knapheide, Prince Agri Products and Gardner Denver.John Wood Community College Campus
