National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 70E Class

John Wood Community College Workforce Development Center will offer a National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 70E class on Wednesday, September 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The class is open to the public, no application is necessary, but individuals are required to make a reservation to attend.  The class will take place at JWCC’s Workforce Development Center at 4220 Kochs Lane in Quincy.

This eight-hour instructor-led course provides the participant with a basic understanding of electrical safety in the workplace.  The course will review the NFPA 70E, Chapter 1, 2015 Edition.  

After completing this course, participants will be able to identify electrical hazards, classify electrical hazards and apply techniques and procedures for safe work practices, and identify techniques to create a culture where electrical safety is part of the workplace.  

Topics Include electrical safety principles, electrical safety controls, hazard prevention, site evaluation and pre-job meeting, effects of electrical shock and shock prevention, electrical safety and approach boundaries for qualified and unqualified employees, effects of arc blast and flash, selecting flash protection PPE based on incident energy, selecting PPE using risk analysis for panel boards, switchboards, Motor Control Centers, and switchgear, proper lockout and tagout, and proper grounding.  The cost is $175 per person, plus a $70 book fee.
