Nursing Seminar - Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing: An Overview

John Wood Community College will provide a professional development seminar for nurses Friday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Participants will receive six Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) for attending the seminar.

Gwenda Pollard, BSN, RN-BC, will present An Overview of Psychiatric/Mental Health Disorders to provide nurses and nursing students with a better understanding of psychiatric/mental health disorders, treatment modalities and nursing care. The seminar’s content will be organized according to the nursing process and will include information on therapeutic communication, personality development, defense mechanisms, psychopharmacology and NCLEX-style testing.

Pollard is board certified in mental health, has taught practical nursing for 23 years and performs Level II Preadmission Mental Health Screenings for the State of Missouri.
