Spring Music Concert

The John Wood Community College Concert Choir, Vocal Show Ensemble and Jazz Band will present a spring concert Tuesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium in the Paul Heath Community Education and Fine Arts Center on the Quincy campus at 48th and Harrison. Admission is $3, payable at the door; students are admitted free of charge.  Donations will also be accepted in order to support the program’s Spring Tour.

The Concert Choir will perform “O Vos Omnes” by Tomas Luis de Victoria, “Hallelujah, Amen” by Georg Gottfried Wagner, “Embraceable You” by George and Ira Gershwin, “Never Gonna Walk This Journey Alone” by Greg Gilpin, “Castle on a Cloud” and Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables and “Twa Tanbou” by Sydney Guillaume.

The 12-member Vocal Show Ensemble showcases pop, rhythm and blues and soul numbers, including contemporary as well as standard pieces.   This year’s program will include “Brighter Than the Sun” and “Bubbly” by Colbie Caillat, “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz and “I Gotta Feeling” as recorded by the Black Eyed Peas.

The Jazz Band will feature charts ranging from cool and mellow to Latin, swing and funk.  Numbers include “It Don’t Mean a Thing” by Duke Ellington, “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder, “The Queen Bee” by Sammy Nestico and “Don’t Know Why” as recorded by Norah Jones.

The groups are under the direction of Professor of Music and Chairman of the Division of Fine Arts Gary DeClue.  Rhonda Basinger is associate director.
