Accessing JWCC Email on Your Phone

On a computer, you can access your email by going to BlazerNet and clicking on Email in the LaunchPad. However, it can be both useful and convenient to send email straight to your phone, so you can get notifications or check your messages on the go. There are many different apps that will let you access your John Wood email, and it would be impossible to cover step-by-step directions for all of them. This short guide will cover setting up your John Wood email with the Outlook app and the Gmail app, as well as some general notes if you don't want to use Outlook or Gmail.

Outlook

  1. Download the Outlook app from the App Store (for iPhone) or Play Store (for Android).
  2. After it's been installed, open the app. It will say "get started" - tap that.
  3. On the next screen, it will automatically detect any non-JWCC accounts you already have on your phone. If you want, you can coordinate all your emails in the Outlook app. For now, we will focus on only including the JWCC email, so uncheck any accounts you see. You can add other personal accounts later, if you want.
  4. Tap "skip" in the bottom right-hand corner once you've unchecked any current accounts your phone may have.
  5. Type in your John Wood account email address. If you're not sure what your email is, contact the help desk at 217.641.4325 or by visiting room B024 on campus.
  6. The app will redirect you to a sign-in page. Depending on your phone's screen size, it may be zoomed in, so zoom out if you have difficulty seeing this screen.
  7. Type in your John Wood account password on the right side of the page. If you're not sure what your password is, contact the help desk at 217.641.4325 or by visiting room B024 on campus, and they can help reset it for you.
  8. Once it accepts your username and password, press "Skip" in the bottom-left, unless you want to set up another email to use with the Outlook app.
  9. You should see your email messages show up in the app!

Note: Email notifications are turned on by default, so even when the app is closed, you'll still get notifications about emails sent to your John Wood account. If you want to change notification settings or other email settings, please see the official Outlook app support page for more information.

Gmail

  1. Download the Gmail app from the App Store (for iPhone) or Play Store (for Android).
  2. After it's installed, open the app and tap "sign in".
  3. Under "Set up email", tap the option that has "Exchange" in it.
  4. Type your John Wood account email address, and tap next. If you're not sure what your email is, contact the help desk at 217.641.4325 or by visiting room B024 on campus.
  5. Type your John Wood account password. If you're not sure what your password is, contact the help desk at 217.641.4325 or by visiting room B024 on campus, and they can help reset it for you. Do not change information about the client certificate.
  6. Gmail will take a bit to communicate with John Wood's email, then it will ask if it's ok to use a Redirect request that will have "autodiscover" in the link. This is from John Wood, so tap OK.
  7. Do not change any other settings in "Incoming server settings"; these are already set up. Tap next.
  8. If it asks for Remote Security Administration, tap ok, then tap "Activate" in the bottom-right hand corner.
  9. You should see your email messages show up in the app!

Note: Email notifications are turned on by default, so even when the app is closed, you'll still get notifications about emails sent to your John Wood account. If you want to change notification settings or other email settings, please see the official Gmail app support page for more information.

Other Email Apps

  1. When you are creating a new account, if it is an option, choose the option with "Exchange" or "Office 365" or "Corporate".
  2. If this option doesn't appear and it doesn't automatically set up your settings, try applying these settings manually:

Domain\Username: your JWCC email

Password: your JWCC password

Client certificate: None

Server: outlook.office365.com

Port: 443

Security Type: SSL/TLS

We recommend using the Outlook app if you can't get your John Wood account set up in another email app. You can always contact the help desk if you need assistance setting things up.
