JOB TITLE: Accounting Assistant STATUS: Non-Exempt
       

 

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

 

Performs clerical and accounting duties in which principles of accounting are applied to reconcile accounts, analyze financial information, assist with audits, and aid in the preparation of financial reports to assist management in achieving profitable business growth.  Entry level position with opportunity for higher level advancement.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Enters transactions into Agvance ERP system validating all required documentation to support the transaction.

 

Answers questions and trains other data processing staff helping management maintain high level of accuracy.

 

Assists in analyzing financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.

 

Assists with statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.

 

Compares inventories to office records or computes figures from records such as sales invoices, transfer records, or purchase invoices to obtain current inventory.

 

Verifies clerical computations against physical count of stock and adjusts errors in computation or count or investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies.

 

Compiles information on receipt or disbursement of material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies, and computes inventory balance, price lists, and shortages.

 

Analyzes product margins and investigates discrepancies from expected values.

 

Reconciles general ledger accounts and determines proper handling of financial transactions.

 

Audits records of departments and interviews workers to ensure recording of transactions and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

 

Examines department activities for compliance with management plans and policies.

 

Assesses the proper accountability of assets by conducting inventories.

 

Analyzes data obtained for evidence of deficiencies in controls, duplication of effort, extravagance, fraud, or lack of compliance with laws, government regulations, and management policies or procedures.

 

Prepares and submits audit findings and makes recommendations to management.

 

Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.

 

Prepare and submits various local, state and government reports including but not limited to taxations and surveys.

 

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.

 

Collects data and submits recommendations for improving the department operation.

 

Provides customer service in a timely and accurate manner to increase customer satisfaction, maintain the reputation and profitability of the organization training for Agvance and WEBS.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and Experience

 

Normally requires an Associate’s degree in accounting or business, or 2 years or more of accounting related work experience or internships to demonstrate knowledge of accounting principles.  A Bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required.

 

Functional Competencies

Proven professional communication and customer service skills and the ability to comprehend simple instructions and communicate one-on-one and in small groups with customers and other employees.

 

Demonstrated time management and basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals along with the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Proven ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

 

Understanding of basic computer skills as they relate to business.
