Job Description


The Junior Buyer will provide materials support for both production and non-production items, including quoting, purchasing, supplier management, and administrative support. Responsible for the procurement of materials, services, and supplies used in the manufacturing of products for Hollister Whitney


· Prepares Purchase Orders (PO’s) per requirements of MRP/Material Requisitions and monitors delivery of product against PO’s

· Provides sourcing/quoting requirements for goods and services required to support Business objectives

· Plans and schedules deliveries to optimize inventories in support of production schedules

· Works with Suppliers to maintain supplies to minimize shortages and/or stock-outs

· Maintains inventory levels based on forecast

· Works with inventory control to resolve issues

· Expedites and coordinates material pick-ups for back-ordered parts from Suppliers

· Coordinates return of damaged goods, replacement items, or credit arrangements with Suppliers

· Arranges corrective & preventive actions and works with the Quality Department and the Supplier to improve quality

· Works with the Quality Department to audit Suppliers and track their performance

· Monitors and communicates Supplier Performance, and takes action to maintain high level of Supplier Performance

· Participates in Supplier evaluation and management

· Creates and maintains mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with Suppliers to foster feedback and continuous improvement, including driving continuous improvements with Suppliers

· Provides Materials support for new R&D projects

· Communicates clear and concise information via phone, e-mail and/or other methods

· Works on special projects intended to reduce cost, improve quality, reduce supplier lead-time, increase efficiency, etc.

· Strictly adheres and complies with Quality, Occupational Safety and Environmental regulations

· Implements instructions with respect to Quality, Occupational Safety and Environmental requirements in Supply Chain

· Performs other duties as assigned


· Associate’s Degree required and/or Bachelor’s Degree preferred in related Business field (Supply Chain,Finance, Business Admin, etc.)

· Understanding of MRP/ERP systems preferred

· Working knowledge of Purchasing and Production Principles

· Attention to detail

· Excellent organizational and communication skills

· Ability to manage entire purchasing cycle from initial quoting to confirmed order

· Ability to work independently on projects

· Ability to identify cost savings opportunities and implement plans to realize savings

· Experience in a manufacturing industry


Works in a typical office setting and in a plant production environment. Must be able to sit, squat, stoop, climb, walk, bend, twist, push or pull for periods of time; go from a sitting position to a standing position several times per day; stand or sit for a long period of time.
