- Intern – Outdoor Instructor
Position Summary: The primary goal of this full time, seasonal work experience is to increase the capacity of Gardner Camp programs to engage youth in outdoor education and recreation activities (such as hiking, wetland exploration, paddling, archery, fishing) and other non-teaching projects as needed. This position is responsible for providing safe, environmentally responsible outdoor programs for participants ages 8-18. This position works 38.5 hours per week (including some weekends) and reports to the Executive Director.
Primary Responsibilities
Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED and at least one year of work or learning experience beyond high school. Experience instructing or leading a broad range of ages is desirable, including childcare, trip leading, and other camp/outdoor experience. Paddling or archery experience and other outdoor recreation experience is strongly desired. Outdoor science knowledge is desired. Physical ability, with reasonable accommodation, required for various activities, such as carrying and paddling kayaks or hiking for a full day. The ideal candidate shows initiative and must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
Training: On-site training for all the above is ongoing throughout the summer. Certification in First Aid and CPR/AED is required. First Aid/CPR/AED will be arranged through Gardner Camp, if needed.
Internship duration: June 1, 2021 to August 20, 2021. This position requires 38.5 hours per week.
Compensation: $10/hour
