Job Description

Firefighter Minimum Requirements:

  • $35.00 non-refundable application fee
  • Minimum of 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of the written examination, unless previous full-time Firefighter in Illinois as noted under state statute (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.3)
  • S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • High School Diploma or GED AND at least ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
    • Minimum sixty (60) college semester hours

OR

  • State of Illinois National Paramedic Certification

OR

  • State of Illinois Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter Certification

OR

  • Four (4) years of active military service with an Honorable Discharge by the time of the written examination
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Proof of completion of Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and proof of passing the Ladder Climb Test, with attainment date less than six (6) months prior to the written examination
    1. Information regarding CPAT, ladder climb test and obtaining certification can be obtained by visiting one of the following:

  • MABAS 24 CPAT – www.mabas24cpat.org
  1. Note: In case of demonstrated financial hardship, accommodations can be made regarding the CPAT testing fee. Contact the Village’s Human Resources Office for details
  • Have correctable vision to 20/20 and have the ability to distinguish colors
  • Tattoos (temporary or permanent) shall not be worn visibly on the hands, neck or head
  • Within 12 months from hire, reside in one of the following counties: Lake, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Will or McHenry counties in Illinois, Kenosha County in Wisconsin or Lake County in Indiana
  • Enter into an “Employment of Relatives Agreement,” “Authorization for Release of Personal Information Agreement,” “Candidate Reimbursement Agreement” and “Abstinence of Tobacco Products Agreement”

    2. NOTE: Applicants who have failed to pass any component of the selection process shall not be reexamined within six (6) months from the date of such failure – please contact IOS Recruitment for details
