Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Apprentice Substation Technician at the Palmyra, Missouri location. Northeast Power is a transmission cooperative delivering power to northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa.

This is considered an entry level, hourly position and classified as “safety sensitive.”  This position requires some overtime and on-call hours which requires residency within 30-minutes of the Palmyra headquarters. The selected candidate will complete the T&D PowerSkills Learning Management System Training Program, provided by Northeast Power. Position may include some overnight stays away from home

What You Will Do:

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about working with their hands and working out-of-doors to complete a planned program of progressive training and work experience necessary for the construction, operation, and maintenance of substations as well as maintenance and repair of line equipment. In addition, you will:

  • Assist in the construction, installation, calibration, testing and maintenance of all types of meters and metering equipment
  • Develop a working knowledge of substations, line sections, switching operations, system apparatus and devices
  • Assist in installation and removal of mobile substation
  • Acquire knowledge to successfully work on energized equipment at any voltage, conforming with training and safe work practices
  • Gain experience to operate equipment, climb and work on substation structures

What We Are Looking For:

This role requires a safety-conscience, detail-oriented individual who has basic knowledge of three-phase power relationships and is familiar with basic testing equipment. In addition, we are looking for:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Technical Degree in Electronics Technology, or equivalent, highly desirable; Licensed Electrician may be considered
  • 2 years’ experience in electric utility transmission, distribution and substation construction, operations and maintenance and/or 2 years’ in meter/relay work or related fields, desirable
  • Able to read and follow directions, diagrams, blueprints and schematics
  • Experienced with personal computers, utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must possess or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment a Commercial Driver’s License Class A with tanker endorsement
