Funding Opportunity Available for Manufacturing Career Training at JWCC
Open houses set for November 13 at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at JWCC Workforce Development Center
Individuals interested in manufacturing careers but lack the skills for advertised job postings may be able to qualify for funding to pay for training at John Wood Community College. The College will host two open houses at its Workforce Development Center at 4220 Kochs Lane on November 13 at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to provide application materials and more information.
Some funding will be provided through the Accelerated Training for Illinois Manufacturing Program (ATIM). Those who qualify can receive short-term training at JWCC for jobs currently available with area manufacturers as certified production technicians, machine operators, welders and mechatronics technicians. Other funding may be available through federal, state or private sources. JWCC staff and members of the Workforce Investment Board of Western Illinois will help participants apply for assistance.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to begin a career that pays a head-of-household wage with benefits,” Pam Foust, JWCC dean of career and technology said. “Our region’s employers are clamoring for people with the exact skills this program provides. With additional training beyond this short-term offering, students may quickly move up the ladder with many companies.”
The open house will provide information about how to apply for funding, course information and other details. Attendees should bring their social security number, income before taxes, employment history or resume’ and Illinois WorkNet account login information if applicable.
