Interview Schedule for JWCC Presidential Candidates Announced
Public Invited to Meet Candidates during Public Sessions to be Held in Quincy, Mt. Sterling and Pittsfield
The interview schedule for the four finalists for the presidency at John Wood Community College has been announced. The series of interviews begins January 27.
The JWCC Board of Trustees has invited the finalists to visit the Quincy campus and outlying centers as part of the interview process. Each candidate will meet with staff, faculty, students, search committee, Trustees and members of the community.
Specific sessions are scheduled for the public to have the opportunity to ask questions and complete a feedback form for each candidate.
Douglas Brauer, vice president of economic development and innovative workforce solutions at Richland Community College in Decatur, will interview January 27 and 28.
Brauer has served in his current position at Richland Community College since 2008. In the prior four years, he was the global manager of Manufacturing Operations and Engineering for the Andrew Corporation. Among his 29 years of professional experience, he has served as the dean of workforce development and community services at Moraine Valley Community College and has held director positions with both Life Fitness Company and the Panduit Corporation.
Brauer holds a Ph.D. in education and human resource studies from Colorado State University, Master of Science in engineering from the University of Illinois and a bachelor of science in industrial technology from Illinois State University. A community college student himself, Brauer completed transfer courses at Joliet Junior College for his undergraduate degree.
A public session is scheduled for Brauer in Mt. Sterling on January 27 from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at JWCC’s facility at 108 N. Capitol. The candidate will visit Pittsfield for a public session from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on the same day at the JWCC Pittsfield Education Center at 1308 W. Washington. Mr. Brauer will be available for public questions at JWCC’s campus in Quincy on January 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium.
Ann Valentine, chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College in Wabash Valley, Indiana, will interview January 30 and 31.
Prior to her current position at Ivy Tech, Valentine was president of Minnesota State Community and Technical College for six years. Throughout her 33 years of professional experience, she has served as vice president and provost at Gateway Technical College in Wisconsin, dean for instructional services and chief academic officer at Independence Community College in Kansas and dean for general education at Moraine Park Technical College in Wisconsin. Valentine has also had roles at the University of Iowa, Kirkwood Community College and the State of Iowa Department of Revenue.
Valentine earned her Ph.D. and Masters of Public Administration at Iowa State University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science at Mount Mercy College. Also a community college student, Valentine earned an Associate of Arts degree at Kirkwood Community College.
On January 30, a public session will be held with Valentine at JWCC’s Mt. Sterling Education Center from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and at the College’s Pittsfield Education Center from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The public is invited to a session in Quincy on January 31 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium.
Two additional candidates will follow the same public schedule Feb. 5 and 7, respectively. Those candidates’ names will be released soon.
JWCC President Dr. John Letts will retire March 31. Trustees hope to select a candidate for his successor in the next two months.
