New "Saturday Skills" Series to Provide Free Classes at JWCC Mt. Sterling Education Center

A new free series of “Saturday Skills” classes will begin this Saturday at John Wood Community College’s Mt. Sterling Education Center.  The courses are part of JWCC’s educational community outreach in the Brown County region.

The series features one-hour sessions once a month on a variety of topics.   All sessions start at 11 a.m. at JWCC’s new center located at 108 North Capitol in Mt. Sterling.

The schedule is as follows:

Craft of Beer & Food/Wine Pairing will start the Saturday Skills series on February 1.  Participants will learn how to craft a home brew, components used in the process, and the latest from the home brew scene.  Presenter Matt Boudreau from Wine on Broadway in Quincy will also educate participants on food and wine pairing.

Photography skills will be featured March 15.  Professional Photographer Brenna Pherigo will offer tips on lighting, contrast and digital camera settings to create better photographs.

Pet Grooming tips will be offered by Sherri Nordsiek from Rushville Veterinary Clinic April 18. The basics of pet care, including trimming, brushing, nail trims and ear cleaning will be covered. Find out what it takes to keep your dog healthy and happy.

Floral Arranging basics will be offered by April Cline of April’s Florist in Mt. Sterling on May 3.  April will show participants how to create centerpieces, bouquets and more.

Participants in JWCC’s Saturday Skills and Take 60 series may also register to win a $25 Dot Country store gift card.  The new educational opportunities have been created by JWCC in partnership with Dot Foods.
