JWCC Agriculture Students Place at Illinois Conference
Seven students from John Wood Community College’s Agriculture Club attended the 40th Annual Illinois Postsecondary Agriculture Student (PAS) Conference and competition in Springfield on January 31 and February 1. The group was accompanied by Gary Shupe, JWCC agricultural sciences department chair, associate professor and club advisor. Over 100 students representing seven community colleges and three universities competed in various career program areas.
JWCC student Brent Mansfield of White Hall placed first in Career Progress – Agricultural Technology. Chad Lentz of Quincy earned second in the Ag Sales Contest and Seth Terwelp of Payson placed third in the Soil Specialist program.
In the team division the Soil Specialist team earned second. Team members included: Seth Terwelp, Brent Mansfield and Monte Wietholder of Payson. The College Bowl team placed third. Team members included: Chad Lentz, Seth Terwelp, Monte Wietholder, Brent Mansfield and Megan Rothe of Brighton.
Other JWCC students participating included Martin Nall of Camp Point and Courtney Siemer of Greenfield.
Students who placed during the conference will have the opportunity to travel to St. Cloud, Minn., for the National PAS Conference the week of March 11 to represent JWCC and Illinois PAS in competition.
