Hannibal High School Advances in WGEM Academic Challenge

Clopton vs Clark County High School Airing February 22

Members of Hannibal High School Quiz Bowl team advances to the semifinal round of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament with a 430 to 55 win over Knox County High School on Saturday February 15.  This match was the third in a seven-part television series airing weekly on WGEM NBC and WGEM FOX TV.

The next match, between Clopton High School (Missouri) and Clark County High School (Missouri) will air Saturday, February 22, at 6:30 p.m. on WGEM NBC, and Sunday, February 16, at 5:30 p.m. on WGEM FOX.

Members of the Clopton team include: Megan Dameron, Kevin Graham, Devin Illy, Kassie McGuire, Sean Phillips, Sara Rutherford, Racheal Stanek and Zack Winkle.  Doreen Schneidler is Clopton High School’s quiz bowl team.

Clark County High School quiz bowl team members include: Colton Hammond, Jack Huston, Devon Mortimer, Shaina Shannan and Chance Waddell.  Denise Nelson and John Reardon are coaches for Clark County.

The WGEM Academic Challenge features 16 schools from the tri-state region competing in 15 matches.  The host of this year’s tournament is WGEM Meteorologist Brian Inman.  The series is co-sponsored by John Wood Community College and WGEM.

Judges for the 2014 challenge include JWCC faculty members Melissa Knapp, assistant professor of mathematics; Mark Moore, professor of natural sciences; and Dr. Randall Egdorf, department chair and assistant professor of social and behavioral sciences.   The series is under the direction of Shawn Dickerman, creative services manager at WGEM.
