Clark County Missouri High School Advances in WGEM Academic Challenge
Semifinal Begins March 1
Members of Clark County (Mo.) High School Quiz Bowl team advances to the semifinal round of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament with a 345 to 85 win over Clopton (Mo.) High School on Saturday February 22. This match was the fourth in a seven-part television series airing weekly on WGEM NBC and WGEM FOX TV.
The Semifinal round of competition kicks off with a match between Macomb High School and Camp Point Central High School airing Saturday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. on WGEM NBC, and Sunday, March 2, at 5:30 p.m. on WGEM FOX.
Members of the Macomb team include: Owen Huff, Michelle Liu, Vince Mahr, Jackson Matlak and Andy Woodruff. The team is coached by Suellyn Rieckelman.
Members of the Camp Point team include: John Aden, Logan Ayers, Aaron DeRouse, Jacob Eilers, Anthony Holtschlag, Tanner Kennady and Kelli Zimmerman. Sarah Triplett is the coach for Camp Point Central High School’s quiz bowl team.
The WGEM Academic Challenge features 16 schools from the tri-state region competing in 15 matches. The host of this year’s tournament is WGEM Meteorologist Brian Inman. The series is co-sponsored by John Wood Community College and WGEM.
Judges for the 2014 challenge include JWCC faculty members Melissa Knapp, assistant professor of mathematics; Mark Moore, professor of natural sciences; and Dr. Randall Egdorf, department chair and assistant professor of social and behavioral sciences. The series is under the direction of Shawn Dickerman, creative services manager at WGEM.
