Nursing Program Ranked Top 10 in State
John Wood Community College’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program is ranked among the top ten in the state by PracticalNursing.org.
JWCC’s four-year National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN) average pass rate of 97.96 percent was the major component used to rank the College’s program ninth among the state’s 43 community colleges that offer nursing. Only two percentage points separated the 1st and 10th ranked programs in Illinois.
The NCLEX-PN exam is a nursing proficiency exam, used to determine both the efficiency of a nursing program’s teaching and to measure students’ preparation to enter the medical field. Because this test is administered to nursing students nationwide, PracticalNursing.org feels that NCLEX-PN exam results are the strongest indicator of nursing success.
The results of this study were taken from a sample of compiled NCLEX-PN test scores of JWCC nursing students over the past four years. JWCC’s scores were then compared to those of 43 other institutions in the state of Illinois. JWCC students scored higher than 80 percent of other nursing students in Illinois.
“We are always striving to have the best nursing instruction and student experiences possible,” said Lisa Tournear, chair and assistant professor of health sciences at JWCC. “This ranking shows our students exceed expectations, and our program will continue to produce graduates ready to provide excellent patient care.”
