Illini Community Hospital is investing in future healthcare professionals to serve its communities. The hospital has donated $15,000 to the John Wood Community College Serving the Southeast Campaign to sponsor the future facility’s health science lab.

The JWCC Foundation launched the fundraising campaign to raise $200,000 for equipment, technology and furnishings for a new facility to serve the Southeastern portion of its district which includes Pike County and portions of Cass, Calhoun, Morgan and Scott counties. The new facility will be located north of the Pittsfield Industrial Park on U.S. Route 54.

A check presentation was made today by Kathy Hull, Illini’s chief executive officer, to members of JWCC’s Southeast Advisory Council and Barbara Holthaus, director of advancement for the College.

“We are pleased to support this campaign to help our communities ‘grow our own’ healthcare professionals,” Hull said.  “This type of facility is crucial in rural communities and Illini Community Hospital wants to help provide the best training equipment for health science students who attend John Wood’s Southeast Education Center.”

JWCC’s Southeast Education Center provides all courses needed for students to become certified nurse assistants and the College plans to offer anatomy and physiology courses for students entering nursing and health science career fields in the new lab sponsored by Illini Community Hospital.

“Illini Hospital’s generous and visionary gift shows their commitment to provide the best service for our communities,” Gina Sheurman JWCC’s Southeast Advisory Council chair said. “We are incredibly thankful what their gift means to the future of healthcare in this area. Having highly skilled professionals trained and working locally means quality, compassionate care for everyone.”

The hospital’s $15,000 gift moves the total raised for the campaign to $150,000 of the $200,000 goal.

Other sponsorship naming opportunities for specific areas of the JWCC Southeast Education Center are available as are giving opportunities involving public recognition on a donor wall inside the facility.  Donors interested in supporting the campaign may contact Barbara Holthaus, executive director of the JWCC Foundation, at 217.641.4104 or bhholthaus@jwcc.edu.
