Hannibal wins WGEM Academic Challenge at JWCC

Members of the Hannibal High School Quiz Bowl team won the championship match of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament with a 315 to 245 win over Macomb High School on Saturday, March 18.  This match was the final in a seven-part television series airing weekly on WGEM NBC, WGEM FOX and WGEM News Talk FM 105.1.

Members of the Hannibal High School team include: Pranati Parikh, Gavin Booth, Donovan Mefford, Caleb Wilson, Ruby Roisum, and Jessica Stinson. Amy Sternke served as a coach for the team.

Macomb team members include:  Micah Flores, Clara Barclay, Ben Williams, Theodore Li, and Collin Reed. The team is coached by Suellyn Rieckelman.

The WGEM Academic Challenge features 16 schools from the tri-state region competing in 15 matches.  The host of this year’s tournament is WGEM Sports Director Ben Marth.  The series is co-sponsored by John Wood Community College and WGEM.

Judges for the 2017 challenge are JWCC faculty members Melissa Knapp, assistant professor of mathematics; Mike Terry, interim dean of arts and sciences; and Dr. Randy Wolfmeyer, assistant professor of engineering.  The series is under the direction of Shawn Dickerman, marketing director at WGEM.
