JWCC to Offer New Kind of Spring Training for Area Business and Industry

John Wood Community College wants to help area industries start their own kind of spring training.  Instead of training pitchers and catchers, office, marketing and warehouse players can upgrade their skills by spending time at JWCC’s Workforce Development Center this spring.

 “To remain competitive in the changing workforce landscape, more businesses are focused on proactive training of employees,” Gordon Forbes, JWCC business and industry coordinator said. “Training is an ongoing and annual endeavor and the college is working to fill the needs expressed by local businesses.  Offering a spring training lineup is just one way we strive to keep our industries up on the latest trends.  We are always meeting with businesses to tailor educational opportunities for their needs and in some cases help them find funding to send employees to training.”


JWCC has released the spring training schedule for 2019, which includes short-term training focused on the needs expressed by Tri-State area businesses and industry.  All classes will take place at the JWCC Workforce Development Center at 4220 Kochs Lane in Quincy. Training topics are as follows:

Safety Training

Forklift Training – Thursday, February 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $75 per person.

NFPA 70E Electrical Training – Friday, February 22, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $175 per person plus $75 book (one book required per company).

OSHA General Industry – Two-day training on Thursday, March 7, from noon to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, March 8, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. $175 per person.

Rigging and Lifting Training – Friday, April 12, from 8 a.m. to noon.  Cost is $85 per person.


Office Training

Excel Level 1 – Two-session training on Wednesdays March 20 and 27 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Cost $95 per person.

Excel Level 2 – Two-session training on Wednesdays April 3 and 10 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Cost is $95 per person.


Professional Development

Effective Leadership – Tuesday, February 12, from 8 a.m. to noon.  Cost $45 per person.

Generational Gaps in the Workplace – Tuesday, April 9, from 8 a.m. to noon. Cost $45 per person.


Lean Training

Lean Lunch & Learn – Thursday, February 14, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.  Cost $20 per person. Lunch sponsored by Peoples Prosperity Bank.

Lean 101 Simulation – Wednesday, March 13 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $369 per person.


Fiber Optic Training

Certified Fiber Optic Technician Training – Monday through Wednesday, May 13 to 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing Training – Thursday and Friday, May 16 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialists in Splicing Training – Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Costs is $730 per person for each training.
