John Wood to Host Muddy River Showcase June 18

QUINCY, IL — A summer basketball tradition is returning to the area.

The inaugural Muddy River Showcase, which will feature 40 top senior boys and girls basketball players from the region throughout Illinois and Missouri, will take place Saturday, June 18 at JWCC’s Student Activity Center, 48th & Harrison Street.

The girls game will tip at 3 p.m. with the boys game to follow at 5 p.m.

The games will be about bragging rights as the all-stars from the Prairie State and the Show-Me State will go head-to-head with 10 players selected to be on each team. Tickets are $10 for the event and available at the door. All seats will be general admission.

“For us from a community college standpoint, we are committed to this area and this community in a variety of ways,” John Wood Community College Athletic Director Brad Hoyt said. “We’re excited to bring an all-star event back and to be the host. The history is great with student-athletes who have played in previous all-star games. Personally and professionally, we are excited to host it and to keep the opportunity to showcase seniors prevalent and still moving.”

This will be the first summer all-star basketball event in Quincy since 2019, when the McDonald’s/Herald-Whig Classic ended its run of 37-years highlighting the top basketball players from throughout the area.
