Scholarships Awarded to Two Area High School Students

John Wood Community College’s Agriculture Alumni Association hosted an open house recently at the JWCC Agricultural Education Center near Baylis, Ill. The event gave area high school students, parents, high school counselors and agriculture teachers an opportunity to learn about the agricultural programs offered by JWCC.

Students were given tours of the center and the adjacent University of Illinois Crop Sciences and Beef Research farms. JWCC administration and advisors provided information on the application process, financial aid and student support services. Agriculture science faculty provided an overview of the ag programs and career opportunities in the ag industry.

Guests met with current JWCC ag students and recent graduates during a panel discussion and Q & A session. Panelists described their experiences at JWCC, the transfer process to 4-year universities and entering the work force.

Drawings for two JWCC ag scholarships were held and presented by Ag Alumni President Amanda Obert. Brock Bollin of Palmyra, Mo. received the Senior Scholarship, and Victoria Owens of Golden, Ill. received the Sophomore-Senior Scholarship.
