JWCC Workforce Development Center offering Electrical Troubleshooting and Maintenance Classes

John Wood Community College Workforce Development Center will offer two specialized electrical troubleshooting and safety courses. The classes will take place at JWCC’s Workforce Development Center, 2710 North 42nd Street, in Quincy.  The classes are open to the public and no application is necessary.  Individuals are required to make a reservation to attend.

Electrical Troubleshooting and Maintenance will be held on two Fridays, April 21 and 28, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Working with real-world components, students in the two-day “hands-on” Electrical Troubleshooting course will learn how to fix electrical problems quickly and safely. This two-day course was created to bring students up to speed in their electrical troubleshooting skills as efficiently as possible.  It was designed to cover the most commonly performed electrical troubleshooting tasks a maintenance technician faces daily. For the novice or experienced electrician, this training course provides a no-nonsense, practical and real-world systematic approach to electrical troubleshooting. This course can also be adopted as part of a company’s regular Qualified Electrical Worker program. The cost is $1,095 per person, including course materials and lunch daily.

NFPA 70E (National Fire Protection Association) class is offered on Friday, May 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The eight-hour instructor-led NFPA 70E course provides the participant with an understanding of the new safety standards for electrical safety in the workplace. This course reviews the mandatory safety requirements of NFPA 70E, 2021 Edition. This course is geared to the hands-on person or a manager in charge of electrical safety in general. Topics include a hierarchy of electrical safety, lockout/tagout requirements, proper use of PPE, OSHA and NFPA safe work practice requirements. The cost is $195 per person, plus a $90 book fee; course materials and lunch is included.

The instructor for both courses is Rick Gertz. Students should register a minimum of two business days before the classes. For more information on these classes or to register, contact the Workforce Development Center at 217-641-4971, or visit https://www.jwcc.edu/programs/workforce/.
